Meet Huan
How did you decide on your subject of study?
My interest in the subject of law was first cultivated as I stumbled upon Professor Luo Xiang’s humorous online lectures. In high school, this interest deepened during a mock trial of authoritarian leaders in my History class, which I found incredibly engaging.
Choosing to pursue an LLB felt like a natural decision, allowing me to explore various areas of law while keeping my options open.
I am truly grateful for the opportunity to begin my legal education at the prestigious Birmingham Law School.
What's your favourite module and why?
My favourite module so far has been Contract Law, largely due to its unexpected real-world applications. I now catch myself thinking about Contract Law principles when buying a train ticket or paying a restaurant bill. These moments of insight continually drive my curiosity to delve deeper into this fascinating subject.
What's the most underrated spot in Birmingham?
The most underrated spot in Birmingham is on the trains of the West Midlands railway service. The train carriages are modern and comfortable, while the views outside are magnificent. As long as the train is not cancelled or delayed, it is an experience I highly recommend!
What's one piece of advice you can share for incoming students?
Be open to making new friends while keeping in touch with people from high school. Building a strong network is important, whether you're a domestic or international student, as it will help you become better together.
Anything you'd like to add?
Receiving the LLB scholarship has not only alleviated some financial burdens as an international student but also inspired me to continue to try new things outside my comfort zone.
As mentioned above, everyone will have unique experiences adjusting to University or studying abroad. Ultimately, it is up to us to make the most of it and find joy in even the small moments—like waiting for a delayed train. To my readers, I look forward to connecting with you one day through our shared experiences.
