I'm Ruby (she/her) and I study English Language and Linguistics. I love books, music, pop culture, and cosy nights in.

I went into A-Levels with absolutely no idea what I wanted to do in life, so I picked a random mixture of Psychology, Chemistry, and English Language. After just a few English Language lessons, I knew I wanted to study it further, and I couldn't be happier with that decision!

Best module?

My favourite module so far is Language Education and Literacy because it looks at the cultural and social influences on education at a global level. Access to education is a topic that's very important to me.

What's the most underrated spot in Birmingham?

The Library of Birmingham!

What's one piece of advice you can share for incoming students?

The English Language and Linguistics Society is a great way to make friends on your course at fun socials.

Take every opportunity you can, because university is about more than just your degree. But make sure you allow yourself to rest as well.
