Meet Ser Hwee
How did you decide on your subject of study?
I actually don't have a set major just yet - that's the beauty of Liberal Arts and Sciences!
I came into the programme wanting to discover what I liked by exposing myself to many different subject areas that I've never touched on before.
I've been enjoying learning new ways of thinking, and I particularly enjoy Anthropology so I'm considering majoring in it! It aligns with my interests in studying about human culture at a deeply intimate level, and I'm excited to see where this study can bring me.
What's your favourite module and why?
My current favourite module is Thinking Anthropologically. I've never studied it before and having the option to study this due to the flexibility of my course is such a blessing. It's been so fun exploring a range of different cultures and understanding their similarities and differences with what I myself am familiar with.
I especially love the seminars where everyone participates so actively and I get to hear so many interesting perspectives, and it's also a plus that I have the sweetest professor & have met the loveliest people in my seminar as well.
What's the most underrated spot in Birmingham?
I absolutely adore the walk along the canal from the Vale to Battery Park.
What's one piece of advice you can share for incoming students?
Don't be afraid to try new things. I've always struggled to find interests that I really love, but it's been wonderful trying out all sorts of societies and I think I've found some I really enjoy. It's also helped me meet so many people and just build the most wholesome communities!
