The Postgraduate High Fliers Scholarship offers an automatic £5,000 tuition fee discount to international students from select countries studying an eligible postgraduate taught Masters degree
Terms and Conditions
All Postgraduate High Fliers Scholarship offers are bound by the below terms and conditions which you should familiarise yourself with.
If your application is successful, all offers are based upon the terms and conditions of the scholarship and further eligibility checks will be undertaken. All offers are made upon the assumption that any and all information submitted is truthful and accurate; the scholarship can and will be revoked if applicants are found to be in violation of the scholarship's terms and conditions at any point.
1. Eligibility
The Postgraduate High Fliers Scholarship will automatically be available to students who meet all of the following criterium:
- Permanently living in (domiciled in) one of the eligible countries: Argentina, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Cameroon, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Egypt, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Iran, Ivory Coast, Jamaica, Kenya, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Senegal, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand, Trinidad & Tobago, Turkey, Uganda, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Vietnam, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
- International fee eligibility: Only students who are classified as eligible for international tuition fee payments will be offered the scholarship.
- Studying a full-time postgraduate taught degree full-time on the Birmingham, UK campus in the 2026/27 academic year: Only eligible on-campus courses weighted at 180-credits, that are offered by our Birmingham, UK campus, are eligible for the scholarship (see the 'eligible courses' tab below). Applicants must not already be studying a postgraduate taught degree at the University of Birmingham.
- Have received and accepted an unconditional offer by 29 May 2026: Only applicants who have received and accepted their unconditional offer by the deadline will be offered the automatic scholarship; this includes paying the required deposit and meeting all academic offer conditions by the deadline.
- Self-funding: Only students who are self-funding their studies will be eligible for the scholarship. This scholarship can be held in conjunction with other University-owned partial scholarships, however, it cannot be held in conjunction with the Future Skills Scholarship or partner discount scholarships offered by the University of Birmingham. Students who are receiving full or partial scholarships or sponsorship from a third-party organisation are ineligible.
Applications to an eligible Masters course must be submitted before the deadline; late applications will not be considered.
If the scholarship has already been awarded and/or is noted on your CAS, the University reserves the right to withdraw the scholarship if it later becomes aware of information that makes the student ineligible.
Eligible courses for the Postgraduate High Fliers Scholarship
Eligible courses for the Postgraduate High Fliers Scholarship
The Postgraduate High Fliers Scholarship is only applicable to students that are studying a postgraduate taught Masters degree, including part-time and full-time courses.
Eligible courses include the following, delivered at our Edgbaston Campus in Birmingham, UK:
- LLM
- MA (Taught)
- MSc (Pre-reg)
- MSc (Taught)
- MPH
- MEd
- MBA
As the scholarship is only applicable to full postgraduate taught Masters degrees weighted at 180-credits, ineligible courses include but are not limited to:
- Programmes delivered exclusively through distance learning
- MA/MSc by Research
- MRes (combined taught and research)
- Undergraduate Integrated Masters degrees (such as MSci, MEng, MPharm and MBChB etc.)
- Intercalated Masters degrees
- MPhil, MMus, and MLit,
- Postgraduate Diplomas (PGDip)
- Postgraduate Certificates (PGCert)
- Postgraduate Research programmes (such as PhDs, PhDs with integrated study, EngD)
- Postgraduate taught degrees that receive governmental funding (such as a NHS bursary or undergraduate tuition fee loans)
- Schools Direct programmes
- Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) courses
- LLB for Graduates
- Initial Teacher Education PGCE (QTS) programmes
- Courses delivered at our Dubai campus
- All top-up programmes
2. Payment
The value of the Postgraduate High Fliers Scholarship is £5,000. This will be paid as a discount on your tuition fee and no part of the award can be made as a cash payment. Only once the awardee has completed Online Registration and is classified as 'Normally Registered' will the discount be applied. Online Registration should be completed by 3 October 2026 (23:59 UK time/GMT+1).
The Postgraduate High Fliers Scholarship is tenable for 12 months at the University of Birmingham and cannot be deferred.
3. Termination
In any of the circumstances set out below the Postgraduate High Fliers Scholarship will be withdrawn and you will receive no (or no further) payments from the University:
- If you permanently leave the University due to illness (whether or not following a Leave of Absence under the University’s Code of Practice on Leave of Absence procedures);
- If you leave the University voluntarily for reasons other than illness;
- If you are required to withdraw from the University due to disciplinary or fitness to practise proceedings;
- If you fail to complete satisfactorily the requirements of your programme;
- If you void any of the eligibility criteria of the scholarship.
The University reserves the right to demand the repayment of any instalment or instalments (or part thereof) of the Postgraduate High Fliers Scholarship paid to you in circumstances 2 or 3 set out above.
4. Leave of Absence
In the event that you take, or are required to take, a Leave of Absence during the academic year any Postgraduate High Fliers Scholarship payments still due will be suspended until you return from your Leave of Absence and re-register as a normally registered student with the University.
Upon re-registering you will be paid the balance of any instalments due from the academic year when the Leave of Absence was taken.
If you fail to return to the University after a Leave of Absence then the Postgraduate High Fliers Scholarship will be terminated and you will receive no (or no further) payments from the University, as outlined above.
