Guidance for current partners

At Birmingham, we are expert at welcoming students from our partner universities around the globe. Every academic year, we welcome over a 1000 international students on exchange and study abroad programmes.

We aim to make the application process for our incoming students as smooth as possible as they embark on their journey at the University of Birmingham. Please review the information below and contact us if you have additional queries, or to book onto one of our weekly zoom session to speak directly with a member of our team.

Nominate for 2025/26 academic year

Academic terms dates

Each semester of study at University of Birmingham entails a 12-week block of tuition worth 60 UK credits (30 ECTS).

Academic year dates for incoming students:

· Semester 1* (Fall entry): from approx. 20 September to 20 December

· Semester 2** (Spring +Summer entry) from approx. 20 January to 20 June

* Semester 1 is a ‘short’ semester where incoming students usually return home before the festive season and submit alternative assessment set by UoB to validate their credits.

**Semester 2 is a longer semester where incoming students benefit from a month break in April during the Easter holiday season and revision weeks, before sitting our standard examination period in May-June. Please visit Academic Year - University of Birmingham for information of exact dates.

Nominate students for an exchange programme

For European and International exchange students, we request a nomination from our overseas partners for all students who select the University of Birmingham, either for one semester or the full academic year.

Please send details of your nominated students to the Study Abroad team, by completing the nomination form below, which will include their full name, their current subject of study and also the proposed subject area here at the University of Birmingham. Once nominated, we will guide your students to apply online using our own online application form. Students must apply before the deadline so they can be included in our module registration process.

Please use our online nomination portal for exchange. Nominations received by email are not accepted. 

Nominate students for a study abroad programmes

Overseas partners may also nominate students on a Study Abroad programme (fee-paying basis) according to the terms of our agreement.

For European and International Study Abroad (fee-paying basis) students, we request a nomination from our overseas partners for all students who select the University of Birmingham, either for one semester or the full academic year.

Please send details of your nominated students to the Study Abroad team, by completing the nomination form below, which will include their full name, their current subject of study and also the proposed subject area here at the University of Birmingham.

Summer / Short Term Mobility (fee-paying)

If your students wish to study at the University of Birmingham but one semester or a full year duration is too long, we also offer Summer / Short-term programmes. For information about how to nominate students for our Summer / Short-term programmes, please contact us.

Deadline to Nominate your students

For the 2025/2026 cycle, our autumn semester nomination deadline is the 31 March 2025 and application deadline is the 30 April 2025 for an admission to the University of Birmingham at any point during the 2025/26 cycle.

For admissions to the Spring 2026 semester, we will accept nominations until the 30 September 2025 for entry in Semester 2 only (in January 2026) and the application deadline is 31 October 2025. However we encourage you to send your nominations during the summer 2025 via our online nomination portal . Nominations received by email are not accepted. Please contact the Study Abroad and Exchanges Team if you anticipate these new deadlines may be challenging for your institution.
