English - Creative Writing, California State University Northridge, USA
What did you study at the University of Birmingham?
I studied in the College of Arts and Law, and my modules were: Poetry Writing, Restoration and Revolution, Literature & Environment: Crisis and Resistance, Modernism, Prose and Prose Writing. At my home institution, I was studying English - Creative Writing.
How was your academic year experience at the University of Birmingham?
I loved that the lecturers switch out depending on their specialties. For my poetry writing module, I had the pleasure of working with three different lecturers. It made me feel like I was getting the highest level of education and each class was in depth and thorough; nothing felt surface level and everything was purposeful. The structure was highly rewarding.
I would say my time at UoB was "Challenging, Liberating, and Grandeur."
Any special mentions for your time at UoB?
Before UoB, I couldn't remember the last time I went on a field trip but the university provided me with three amazing opportunities, fully funded, to enhance my study abroad experience and academic studies. I got to visit Stratford Upon Avon, Shakespeare's hometown, to watch a RSC rendition of 'Hamlet' and was starstruck by Jared Harris performing in front of me as Claudius. The performance was incredible and, as a creative writer, I felt so immersed in the history of my field.
