Postgraduate Campus Tours

Visit our beautiful campus by attending a campus tour

If you are interested in postgraduate study at Birmingham, you have the opportunity to visit our beautiful campus in Edgbaston and attend one of our Postgraduate Campus Tours.

Booking a campus tour

If you can't make it along to a full open day, then a campus tour is an alternative way to explore our beautiful campus!

Campus tours for visitors interested in postgraduate study will take place every last Wednesday of the month (excluding June) from either 11.00am or 13.00pm. The walking tours will be lead by current postgraduate taught and research students currently studying at the University. The tours are designed to give a general overview of the campus and last approximately 45 minutes. They're not subject-specific but our ambassadors are experienced in handling questions about life on campus and studying at the University more broadly.

You will have the opportunity to have an informal chat with postgraduate ambassadors and postgraduate recruitment staff after the tour to ask any questions you might have regarding postgraduate study at the University of Birmingham.

Important Information

  • Tours begin at 11:00am and 13:00pm, and will last approximately 45 minutes.
  • Our tours will highlight key buildings and locations important to all postgraduate students studying with us and will not take you inside any subject-specific buildings nor accommodation.
  • All tours are led by student ambassadors who are current postgraduate students and will be able to give you an insight into postgraduate study, and life in Birmingham. However, it is unlikely that the ambassador leading your tour will be from the course you are interested in.
  • You will have the opportunity to have an informal chat with a postgraduate ambassador or a staff member from the postgraduate recruitment team after the tour. This will take place in the Bramall Music Hall Café.
  • The entirety of your tour will take place outside, so please check the weather forecast and come prepared for any weather by wearing suitable clothing and footwear.
  • Our ambassadors are easily identifiable by their white hoodies or black jackets that have 'Ask us' written on their backs.
  • When you book a session, you will receive a confirmation email for each session you have booked. Nearer to the date and time of your session(s), we will send you another email reminding you of all the details you need, such as information on where the tour will depart from.
  • There will be toilet facilities and catering facilities available across campus in our buildings.
  • Spaces are limited on our sessions to ensure that all guests can enjoy their visit thoroughly so early booking is advised. If you need to amend or cancel any of your bookings, you can do this via your personal RSVP page that will be emailed to you upon booking confirmation.
  • If you or anyone accompanying you has any accessibility requirements, please advise us when booking your place. This will allow us to make all the necessary arrangements to ensure your visit is as easy as possible.
  • Due to unforseen circumstances, we may be forced to cancel campus tours at relatively short notice. We will contact you via email if things need to change for any reason.

Travelling to campus

Please read our advice about getting to our Edgbaston Campus. We have our own train station at the University which is around 7 minutes from Birmingham New Street as well as plenty of bus connections. If you are driving to the University, then there are a number of pay and display car parks that you can use. We recommend the North East Car Park (Sat Nav postcode B15 2SA, pay and display charges apply), however parking on campus is extremely limited and visitors to campus are requested to visit us using public transport wherever possible.

Admissions queries

Whilst our student ambassadors leading the tours won't be able to answer questions about admissions, our Admissions Support team is here for you if you need support making an application. The Admissions Support team can answer all your questions about applying to study postgraduate courses at the University of Birmingham. They have many frequently asked questions that you can browse by category or search for a query, ranging from questions on how the application process works, how to keep track of the progress of your application, what your offer means and what you need to do next.

The Admissions Support team don't have a physical location on campus but if our helpful frequently asked questions don't answer your query, then you can submit a question and our support team will get back you.
