Our Postgraduate Progression Awards offer final year undergraduates at the University of Birmingham a fee discount of £1,500 for postgraduate taught study.
The Postgraduate Progression Award
We want to ensure that in these challenging circumstances, as a Birmingham graduate you have the support needed to continue studying and developing your career. With the familiarity of the University of Birmingham you will continue to have access to our resources, facilities and support networks to continue your studies and shape your future once we return to our 'new normal'.
The tuition fee discounts for our progressing undergraduate students are our commitment to you, in appreciation of your choice to stay with us for your postgraduate degree.
We understand that these are difficult circumstances for our students as the job market and future prospects become unpredictable; we can assure you that you will receive our wellbeing and careers support, community and resources to assist you in your development.
Who is the fee discount available to?
The tuition fee discount is available to those students graduating with an undergraduate degree from the University of Birmingham in 2023, and progressing directly to a postgraduate taught programme with us in September 2023 or January 2024 (for the 2023-2024 academic year).
A £1,500 discount will be applied for full and part-time Postgraduate Taught programmes.

You can complete our short application form to apply for the tuition fee discount, which will be applied to your fees ahead of your first payment.

To be considered for it, you will need to have made an application to your intended postgraduate programme by the deadline of 31 August 2023 (for September 2023 start dates) and complete the Postgraduate Progression Awards application form.
We will verify your application and confirm your discount after the 31 August 2023 deadline. The discount will then be applied automatically to your fees when you register for your programme.
The award can be held in conjunction with any other University-funded scholarship or other discount, such as the Birmingham Masters Scholarship. Students with funding from an external organisation are also eligible for the fee discount.
Full-time, part-time and distance learning postgraduate taught programmes qualify.
Students who are enrolled on an eligible course and charged fees on a modular basis can still apply for a Postgraduate Progression Award. A fee discount will be applied across your first two postgraduate modules (£750 per module).
Part-time programmes will have the fee reduction applied, in full, in the first year of the course only. For example, a two year degree would have £1,500 reduction for the first year of study and the second year would be the full tuition cost. This means the fee reduction is not applied pro-rata and is only applied to the tuition fees for the academic year 2023/24.
