The department of Classics, Ancient History and Archaeology, is pleased to announce that the Carr-Smith endowment will fund three £5,000 scholarships for MA Antiquity: Classics and Ancient History for the 2026/27 academic year. Students from groups under-represented in postgraduate study of the ancient world and Birmingham Scholars are particularly encouraged to apply.

Who can apply?

Both UK-based and international students are able to apply for this award. To be eligible, you must have applied for the MA Antiquity: Classics and Ancient History programme (full-time or part-time), to commence your studies at the start of the 2026 academic year. In the case of part-time students, the £5,000 stipend will be paid across the two years.

Applications for funding can only be considered alongside an application to study.  

How to Apply

In order to apply, you must have completed an application to study. You will then need to complete our simple online funding application form.

Decisions will be made on merit and your interest in Classics and Ancient History, based on your funding application form and on your application to study.

The deadline for applying is Friday 3 July 2026 at 12:00 noon GMT.

We will let you know as soon as possible the outcome of your application.
