The University of Birmingham is pleased to announce a number of scholarships of £10,000 for select students from China applying for entry to a postgraduate programme at the University starting September 2026.

The scholarships will be based on academic merit and awarded to the highest performing students starting their University of Birmingham programme in the 2026/2027 academic year.

Who can apply?

In order to be eligible, candidates must:

  • Have received and accepted an offer for a full-time postgraduate taught master’s programme starting September 2026. The student must be entering onto a degree programme based at Birmingham’s UK campus.

  • Expect to meet the academic conditions of their offer.

  • Be classed as Chinese nationals or domiciled in China.

  • Bachelor’s degree must be from a university in the China ‘985’ project or ‘211’ project with the following minimum average scores.

    • Applicants from ‘211’ universities: minimum 80%
    • Applicants from ‘985’ universities: minimum 75%
  • Be classed by the University as an overseas fee payer for tuition fee purposes and have sufficient funds to cover the remaining tuition fee.

  • Have sufficient funds to cover the full cost of living at the University of Birmingham, plus any visa/travel expenses associated with studying in the UK.

  • Start their studies at the University in September 2026 (the scholarship award may not be deferred).

  • Submit their scholarship application by the deadline of 31 May 2026.

How to Apply

To apply for this scholarship, candidates need to apply by 31 May 2026 (we reserve the right to make changes to this date) using the linked application form.

Selection for the award will be based on academic excellence and the details provided in the scholarship application form.

Please note: There are a limited number of applications which can be accepted for these awards; therefore, the university reserves the right to close this scholarship link before 31 May 2026.

Are there any programmes excluded from receiving this scholarship?

Please note that students applying for the following subjects and programmes are not eligible for this scholarship:

  • Any distance-learning, MPhil, MRes and PhD programmes
  • Any undergraduate programme MEng, MPharm, MSci

When will successful candidates be notified?

Decisions will be announced by Friday 14th August at the latest and the scholarships will be awarded upon the students’ enrolment in September 2026.

Please note that this is a selective scholarship and ONLY successful candidates will be notified by email. If we have not contacted by this time, your scholarship application has not been successful.

Can this scholarship be combined with other scholarships?

This scholarship can be held in conjunction with scholarships, terms and conditions of both scholarships permitting, but not with any full University of Birmingham scholarship or any partial or full external scholarship.

What are the Terms and Conditions for this scholarship?

 By accepting the award, the scholar will agree to support the University by helping with future student visits, being available for testimonials/ photos/videos for marketing purposes and engaging in other activities such as blogging (if required).
