Elite Dual Career Athlete Pathway (EDCAP) Sport Scholarship

The Elite Dual Career Athlete Pathway (EDCAP) is our highest tier of Sport Scholarship and provides sector-leading support for exceptional student-athletes pursuing a dual career in high-performance sport and academic study.

Designed for athletes aspiring to compete at major international championships, EDCAP mirrors the support available through a world-class performance programme and is tailored to the individual needs of each athlete.

The total value of an EDCAP scholarship is approximately £8,000–£12,000 and includes:

• A financial award of up to £5,000, with additional funding potentially available for international representation and personal development.
• Tailored strength and conditioning, nutrition, physiology, psychology and performance lifestyle support.
• Physiotherapy and soft tissue therapy, alongside potential support for medical imaging, diagnosis and intervention.
• Dedicated dual career and performance lifestyle support, including consideration for academic flexibility.
• 12-month Peak Sport & Fitness Membership including access to 200-station gym, 50-metre pool, steam room and sauna, gym group training and UNIversal Gym Access
• Elite Sport Scholar Kukri kit & Athlete Resource pack
• Athlete Profiling session, induction and various EDCAP Scholar events
• One-grade reduction in the academic conditions of offer to study at the University of Birmingham

Who can apply?

Applicants of all nationalities are eligible to apply and must be competing in an Olympic, Paralympic and/or Commonwealth Games sport

EDCAP is designed to support the development of our highest-performing student-athletes. Applicants must be competing at a junior international level as a minimum and should clearly demonstrate the potential to progress towards major international championships.

Applicants must have applied for an eligible undergraduate or postgraduate programme at the University of Birmingham and must complete a separate Sport Scholarship application.

Meeting the criteria for consideration does not guarantee an EDCAP scholarship.

How to Apply

To be considered for an EDCAP Sport Scholarship, you must complete both of the following by the scholarship application deadline:

• Apply for your University of Birmingham programme. You must have submitted an application for your intended undergraduate or postgraduate programme at the University of Birmingham.
• Complete the Sport Scholarship application form. Applications open on 1 October 2026 and must be submitted by Wednesday 20 January 2027.
• You will need your UCAS ID or University of Birmingham application ID when completing your Sport Scholarship application. Please ensure you enter the correct ID, as an incorrect or missing number may delay your application.
• You will also be asked to provide information about your sporting achievements and the contact details of a coach or representative who can support your application. Decisions will be communicated by 31 March 2027.
