The Grundy Educational Trust provides financial scholarships to Home/UK high quality postgraduate STEM students who have a demonstrable need for financial assistance.

Up to five awards between £1,500 and £6,000 to assist with the maintenance costs of studying a postgraduate programme will be awarded.

Who can apply?

You can apply for this award if you:

  • will be studying a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) postgraduate programme in 2026/27, either as a new or continuing student
  • have strong academic performance and potential
  • can demonstrate financial need
  • are a UK citizen or resident (classed as home for tuition fee purposes)

The award is open to postgraduate taught, postgraduate research and PhD students.

Eligible Nationalities/Domiciles:

Students who are UK citizens, or are UK residents and classed as home for tuition fees are eligible for this scholarship.

How to Apply

Applications are made via the Grundy Educational Trust Application Form (click the apply now button below).

The form asks for two references and a brief personal statement on why you should be considered for the award.

In addition to the two references in your application, we ask that you send a supporting statement from your school at the University of Birmingham to fga@contacts.bham.ac.uk which will support your application and help with the shortlisting process. We will also share this reference with the Grundy Educational Trust.

The deadline for applications is Monday 13 April 2026.

Candidates will be shortlisted by a university panel based on academic merit, potential and financial need. All applicants will be contacted by the end of May and shortlisted candidates will invited to a virtual interview with the trustees on Monday 22 June 2026.
