The University of Birmingham is pleased to announce a number of scholarships of £5,000 for select students in Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea applying for entry to an undergraduate programme at the University starting in September 2026.

The scholarships will be awarded to the highest performing students commencing their studies at the University of Birmingham in the 2026/2027 academic year.

Who can apply?

In order to be eligible, candidates must:

• Have received an offer and selected the University of Birmingham as their firm, insurance, or clearing choice for a full-time undergraduate programme starting in September 2026. The student must be entering the first year of an undergraduate programme based at the University’s UK campus.

• Meet the academic conditions of their offer.

• Be classed by the University as an overseas fee payer for tuition fee purposes and be able to pay the outstanding tuition fees not covered by the scholarship.

• Have sufficient funds to cover the full cost of living at the University of Birmingham, plus any visa/travel expenses associated with studying in the UK.

• Start their studies at the University in September 2026 (the scholarship award cannot be deferred).

• Be registered with, and have their undergraduate study application attached to, one of our local representatives in Taiwan, Japan, or South Korea (listed below in alphabetical order).

Eligible countries

Open to all nationalities but must be living in (domiciled) in Taiwan, Japan & South Korea.

How to Apply

To apply for the scholarship, students must have:

• Accepted an offer from the University of Birmingham.

• Selected Birmingham as their firm choice.

• Please complete and submit the application form by July 19.

Selection for the award will be based on a combination of academic merit and interview performance.

Interview invitations will be sent during the week of 20–24 July 2026, and interviews (online) will be conducted between 27 July and 31 July 2026.

(The University of Birmingham reserves the right to amend these dates or the selection process.)

What is the value of the award?

The scholarship is £5,000 awards towards tuition fees (for the first year only) of a full-time Undergraduate degree programme at the University of Birmingham UK campus, starting September 2026.

When will successful candidates be notified?

Decisions will be announced by Friday 14th August at the latest and the scholarships will be awarded upon the students’ enrolment in September 2026.

Please note if we have not contacted by this time, your scholarship application has not been successful. 

Can this scholarship be combined with other scholarships?

This scholarship can be held in conjunction with scholarships issued by other University of Birmingham departments, terms and conditions of both scholarships permitting, but not with any full University of Birmingham scholarship or any partial or full external scholarship.
