Founded in 1919, the Sir Richard Stapley Educational Trust provides financial support to postgraduate students of proven academic merit who are in financial need. The Trust aims to help students pursue further degrees or certain postgraduate qualifications at recognized institutions in the UK.

Grants are awarded annually and typically range from £550 to £1,250 per academic year. These are small supplementary grants intended to help cover shortfalls in funding for tuition or living expenses.

Who can apply?

Applicants must:

  • Hold a First Class or Upper Second Class Honours degree (2:1), or be expected to achieve one if currently in their final undergraduate year.
  • Be accepted onto or applying for a master’s, doctoral degree, postgraduate certificate/diploma, or a second degree in medicine, dentistry, or veterinary studies at a UK university.
  • Be a UK citizen or currently living in the UK, and plan to remain in the UK throughout the academic year (except for course-related travel).
  • Be facing a financial shortfall during the academic year.
  • Be starting or continuing a course that begins in 2026 and lasts at least eight months.

Applications are submitted online via the Stapley Trust Applications Page. The next application round opens on 5 January 2026 for the 2026/27 academic year. Applicants must:

  1. Complete the online form.
  2. Provide academic transcripts and referee contact details.
  3. Demonstrate financial need and course details.
