Training for students and staff

We expect all members of our student community to undertake training which has been designed to enable students to develop a greater understanding of what constitutes sexual misconduct and harassment, an awareness of how they can contribute to the creation of a safe and respectful learning community through their actions, and how they can be an active bystander when they are witness to unwanted behaviour.

When we use the term student on these pages, this is inclusive of our full-time campus-based students, our apprentices, our exchange students, our part time students and those who are studying online or at an alternative location.

Training is provided to all students and the completion of the appropriate training module for your course is required.

For full time, campus based Undergraduate students you can find the training on Canvas, in your Support and Development Hub.

We also have dedicated training modules specifically designed for:

  • Post Graduate Taught and Research students
  • Part time and Distance Learners (including those learning online)
  • Students on one of our Partnership or Apprenticeship programmes

You will be informed by your Programme Team where you can complete the appropriate module for your mode of study.

We also work closely in partnership with our Guild of Students and UoB Sport to ensure that student societies, sports teams, and social events run by and for students are safe and enjoyable experiences for everyone.

Staff training

All staff should understand what condition E6 means, and the steps that the University is taking to protect students from sexual misconduct and harassment. We have created a presentation which all staff should review and ensure they are familiar with.

Further to having a broad understanding of sexual misconduct and harassment and the related support and policies, some staff will be required to undertake more detailed training depending on their role and their interactions with students. Heads of School and Professional Services Senior Officers will identify staff who are required to undertake additional training, which is detailed below. If you are a member of staff and unsure if you should have undertaken additional training, please speak to your Line Manager.
