Nila Ravi Dimple
My Graduate Story
My name is Nila Ravi Dimple and I completed a MSc in International Business at the University of Birmingham.
I currently work as a Strategy Buyer responsible for Jaguar Land Rover’s long term strategy in the Raw Materials team.
My role entails identifying and mitigating potential risks, conducting data analysis, implementing future strategies, and evaluating suppliers.
A Day in my Life
A typical day usually involves a combination of strategic planning, data analysis, and stakeholder management. While my days vary, days when I am in the office, I would collaborate with my manager to identify priority projects, have more meetings and engage with my colleagues to gain diverse perspectives. When working from home, I primarily focus on research such as risk assessment and mitigation, and evaluating new technologies.
My Journey to Jaguar Land Rover
I began the process of applying for jobs about six months before my graduation. My primary objective was to secure a job that aligned with my interests and career aspirations. While obtaining a visa was a consideration, my main priority was to find a good job that I liked. I strategically focused on applying for a select few positions that genuinely interested me.
My Birmingham Experience
The MSc International Business course was incredibly well-structured to equip us with the skills needed for successful careers. I particularly appreciated the focus on case studies, which really helped me understand complex concepts. The assessments were designed to enhance communication, teamwork, and research skills—competencies that are essential in the professional world. As someone with an engineering background, the course provided me with a comprehensive exposure to the business landscape, enabling me to rapidly develop the skills necessary to thrive.
Birminghams Impact
The Business School Careers team provided invaluable assistance throughout the application process. I had regular monthly appointments with them to ensure that I was submitting applications correctly, updating my CV effectively, and progressing in a manner that would increase my chances of securing a desirable job.
My Achievements
In addition to graduating well, my greatest accomplishment during my course was being selected for assessments and development programmes. This provided me with the chance to participate in a variety of corporate projects, including those from BBC, Siemens, and HSBC. These experiences allowed me to encounter real-world situations and significantly accelerated my skill development.
