My Graduate Story
My name is Sam Price, and I completed a BA in History at the University of Birmingham in 2013. I am currently working as the Digital Content Director for Touchline, a content and communications agency based in London, specialising in sports and sustainability. In my role, I manage projects for high-profile clients such as UEFA and the International Olympic Committee.
A Day in my Life
My role as Digital Content Director involves a mix of writing, editing, client liaison, and overseeing the entire production process of our digital content. The content I create and manage is featured on client websites, social media accounts, and print publications. Each day is a blend of creative tasks, client communication, and project management.
My Journey to Touchline
Touchline is a content and communications agency that specializes in sports and sustainability. In my role, I am responsible for managing digital content projects for major clients like UEFA and the International Olympic Committee. The job involves a lot of editorial work, client interaction, and overseeing the production process from start to finish.
My Birmingham Experience
My time at the University of Birmingham helped me hone my research, editing, and time management skills—essential abilities for my current role. I also learned how to work independently and think more creatively. These skills have been incredibly valuable in my professional journey.
The University’s Careers Network was also a helpful resource for me, particularly after graduation when I was figuring out my next steps. I attended some career fairs during my studies and later met with the support services to explore options after finishing my degree.
Birmingham's Impact
The University of Birmingham had a significant impact on my personal and professional growth. I particularly remember attending seminars and lectures delivered by standout professors, which inspired me and contributed to my academic success.
My Achievements
One of my proudest achievements during my time at the University of Birmingham was achieving a first-class degree. A particularly memorable moment was receiving one of the highest dissertation scores in my year-group, which played a big part in securing my first role after university.
Advice for Students
My advice for students graduating today is to gain plenty of extra-curricular experience during your studies, especially in the summer holidays. It will help you determine what you enjoy, and the connections you make can be invaluable in your career.
