Why did you apply to study Pharmacy?
I was very interested in learning about pharmaceutical drugs and how they interact in the body and their different functions. Learning about the biology of the human body has interested me since starting A-levels, and finally having the opportunity to explore this in more depth was something I had wanted to do for a long time.
Why did you choose the University of Birmingham?
After attending open days during my A-levels, the campus was very appealing to me. I wanted to study in an environment where I knew I was safe and valued was an additional aspect that influenced my decision. Furthermore, the city is full of opportunities, and studying here allows me to make the most of them.
What has been the biggest challenge you have faced at University so far?
Meeting deadlines was a particular challenge for me especially due to the high demands of pharmacy assignments and projects. This encouraged me to start my assignments earlier and ensure I gave myself the best chance of submitting work on time and at the highest quality.
What has your overall experience as a student been like so far?
One of my highlights is meeting new people and sharing similar interests. Having memorable laughs and moments with some of the best people I have met has helped me value university life more. Attending societies and expressing my personality was another highlight, as it gave me the opportunity to show my confidence to like-minded individuals, which made a real difference alongside pharmacy life. Studying at university has brought me many opportunities that I am very glad I haven't missed out on, whether that was attending events, meeting new people, or trying a new sport. Not only am I increasing my academic knowledge, but also gaining real-world experiences.
What advice would you give to students thinking about studying Pharmacy?
Use your time at university to make new friends and try not to limit yourself to your course only. Find people from different cultures and backgrounds to share your stories with and connect over similar interests. Making sure you stay on top of your studies while also taking time for yourself will make your university life better. Try to build good relationships with your colleagues and lecturers, you may end up working with them in the future.
