How did you get into Psychology?
I excelled at Psychology during my A-levels which opened my eyes to how psychology was the right career path for me as it was something I greatly enjoyed and it was always a dream to be able to work in a career setting that helps improve the life of others. Birmingham has shaped this by having such a wide yet detailed degree scope and making sure we are able to study most topics in psychology at a higher level with the top professors in that topic.
Why did you choose Birmingham?
Ever since I had attended my first open day at the University of Birmingham I was captivated by the beautiful campus and when I got an offer and attended my offer holder day it only reinforced my thoughts of going to the University of Birmingham. I also chose Birmingham because the course structure for psychology was perfect for me ensuring I was able to explore all areas of expertise and then choose the areas I’d like to focus on myself in third year.
How have you found managing your time?
Managing my time has become easier as I progressed through university. I’ve found that the university Academic Skills Centre has provided me with a lot of guidance by helping me out when I had questions about my coursework and making sure to hold regular meetings to help students out in any way they can. We also have our very own personal tutors who can help us with time management issues if we asked.
A great way you can manage your time is by making sure to always plan ahead with any assignments and exams you have so that there will be less pressure on you as the time goes on.
Ann's Top 3 Tips for prospective students:
- Make sure to pick a university to study at that you really love
- Pay close attention to not only the course you are doing but also the campus, the support services and extracurricular activities a university provides before choosing.
- Attend as many open days and offer holder days as you can before reaching a decision even if the university isn’t something you’d place highly on your list.
What are your future career plans after graduation?
In the future I’d like to continue my studies at the University of Birmingham and go on to do my masters and hopefully get a role in the future as a clinical psychologist.
What's your favourite memory at UoB so far?
Spending time with my friends and staying in student accommodations with all of them.
