What motivated you to study in the UK?

The United Kingdom’s reputation for global academic excellence and research quality constantly fueled my desire to develop my career in the UK. Many great African leaders, such as Nelson Mandela, have benefited from the UK’s high-quality education and strong research system, and I see pursuing this career path as vital for my growth as an emerging leader committed to Ghana’s sustainable development.

Why did you choose the University of Birmingham?

Pursuing a Master’s degree in Health, Safety and Environmental Management at the University of Birmingham is the optimum option for every environmental health and safety manager. The University has a number of the world's best facilities and experts in environment, health and safety management. The availability of these facilities and experts has enabled me to access, manage global environmental risks and also gain experience in working with industries.  Most organisations in Africa do not comply with environmental regulations as compared to advanced countries. Therefore, getting the opportunity to pursue this programme at this university in the UK has given me the exposure to how organisations outside Africa comply with regulations, identify risks and embark on health and environmental assessments. I will be able to contribute effectively to organisational strategies in Africa.

How has the scholarship supported your academic journey or overall student experience?

Frankly speaking, without this scholarship, I would not have been able to make my academic journey in the UK a reality. I can focus on my studies and enjoy my stay on campus. I am very grateful for being granted this scholarship.

What do you enjoy most about living and studying in Birmingham?

My lecturers are very amazing and helpful. I have never experienced this kind of academic support in my whole life. I would love to take them back to my country when I am done with my studies.
