Why did you choose to study at the University of Birmingham?
I chose to study at the University of Birmingham because of its strong international reputation and commitment to developing healthcare professionals. The University's diverse learning environment also provides valuable opportunities to collaborate with students and academics from different professional and cultural backgrounds. At that time, I expected to learn more about clinical pharmacy, especially evidence-based practice, leadership and innovation in healthcare.
What made you choose your course, and what interested you most about the subject?
Learning about clinical pharmacy was one of my goals because it relates to my work as a hospital pharmacist. Moreover, this course gave me a broader understanding of healthcare systems, leadership, and professional education. What interested me most was the opportunity to explore how pharmacists work in the United Kingdom.
What do you enjoy most about your course?
What I enjoy most is the opportunity to learn from both academic experts and fellow healthcare professionals from different countries. This programme was designed for international students, which has allowed me to learn from my cohort about healthcare systems worldwide. I have particularly enjoyed applying theoretical concepts to real-world healthcare challenges and reflecting on how to implement these lessons in my own professional setting.
How would you describe the teaching, learning environment, and support from your lecturers?
The teaching has been engaging and highly supportive. The lecturers are professional and easy to approach, and they always encourage critical thinking and discussion. The learning environment is inclusive and collaborative, making it easy to exchange ideas with the cohort. I have also appreciated the guidance and feedback provided throughout the course, which has supported both my academic and professional development. The university also supports me by providing wide access to journals and books in the library and online. Furthermore, they provide activities to support our well-being and help us achieve higher grades.
How has your course helped you develop the knowledge and skills you'll need for your future career?
The course has strengthened my critical thinking, research and communication skills. The modules provided deeper knowledge of clinical pharmacy and gave me new perspectives during practical experience in healthcare settings. Additionally, I gained a better understanding of professional development and collaborative practice, both essential for my future career in healthcare and education.
What are your career goals after graduation, and how has your course prepared you to achieve them?
After graduation, I plan to continue developing my career as a hospital pharmacist. An international approach has made me realise many things, particularly the gaps in education and healthcare services. My long-term goal is to improve patient care through both clinical practice and developing future healthcare professionals.
Please can you tell us about your time presenting at an international conference.
Presenting at an international conference was one of the most unforgettable experiences during my studies. The conference focused on neurology and epilepsy, which aligned with my project, and included healthcare professionals and university academics. The experience boosted my confidence in public speaking, scientific communication, and professional networking. It motivated me to continue contributing to research and professional development throughout my career.
