Why did you originally apply to do BSc Chemistry with Business Management at Birmingham?
I chose to study Chemistry at Birmingham not only because of my longstanding fascination with research in the skincare and haircare field but also because I was captivated by the campus when I first laid eyes on it. The idea of living in a vibrant, bustling city like Birmingham appealed to me, and UoB seemed to strike the perfect balance between a campus environment and city life, which resonated with what I was looking for in a university experience.
What do you think are the best points of BSc Chemistry with Business Management?
The standout aspect of my course is the accessibility of our lecturers. They not only know us by name but also make themselves readily available for communication. Whether I encounter an issue and need assistance, or I wish to arrange a one-on-one meeting, I can confidently email my lecturers, and they are always eager to help find solutions. This level of approachability is something I find unique and invaluable. When discussing my experiences with friends pursuing different courses at the university, they are consistently amazed by the accessibility and responsiveness of my lecturers.
What’s the best thing about studying at the University of Birmingham?
One of the most enriching aspects of studying at the University of Birmingham is the incredible diversity it embraces. Over the past two years, I've had the privilege of meeting individuals from various corners of the world, each sharing their unique stories. This exposure has not only broadened my understanding of diverse cultures but has also been a profound journey of self-discovery. UoB provides a plethora of opportunities beyond academic pursuits, and I consistently advocate for participation in these activities. The experiences gained are truly transformative. As a proud UoB student, I can assure you that the transformation you undergo from the day you step into the university to the moment you graduate is nothing short of remarkable. The experiences, challenges, and diverse encounters shape you into a person with newfound perspectives and a deeper understanding of yourself and the world around you.
What’s your highlight of your time at the University?
The best part of my time at UoB has been my own inner journey. I started as a shy girl who was unsure of her goals and possibilities. Now, I have transformed into the opposite. I can confidently engage in conversations, I know my ambitions, and I have the skills to achieve them. Along this path, every person I encountered played a vital role in helping me recognise my own capabilities, for which I am truly grateful.
What advice would you give to students thinking about studying BSc Chemistry with Business Management?
Navigating your university journey involves more than just excelling academically. While attending lectures and staying diligent with coursework is crucial, it's equally essential to explore opportunities the university offers, which extends beyond your academic path. Whether you're drawn to expressing yourself through writing or venturing into vlogging, the University is a diverse playground for various passions. These three or four years at UoB offer a unique window to discover various aspects of yourself and making the most of every moment will contribute to a rich and fulfilling university experience. After this period, you might not have the same chance to delve into such diverse activities, so seize the opportunity to explore and grow during your time at UoB. It's a holistic approach that goes beyond academic success, fostering personal growth and a fulfilling university journey.
Is there anything extra students thinking about studying BSc Chemistry with Business Management should know?
A crucial piece of advice I would offer is to prepare yourself for an intensive workload when undertaking a chemistry degree. While challenging, it's important to recognise that mastering this field is entirely achievable. It demands dedication and time, more so than some other degrees. It's essential not to draw comparisons with friends pursuing different courses, as the dynamics of each discipline can vary significantly.
