Why did you originally apply to do MSci Chemistry with a Year in Industry at Birmingham?
I attended a few online open days for various universities. The chemistry students at Birmingham all seemed to really enjoy the course and their whole University experience. I then attended an on campus open day and an offer holder visit day. These really helped me to make my final decision as I got the opportunity to see the chemistry buildings, labs, and meet the lecturers. They all seemed really friendly and passionate about the subject!
What do you think are the best points of MSci Chemistry with a Year in Industry?
I really enjoy labs. They give me the opportunity to see the theory that I am learning about be put into practice. They’re not too stressful as there are PhD student demonstrators supervising who are really helpful. At the start of first year everyone is taught all of the key skills they will need, and the videos are uploaded online so you can go back at any time. This removes a big element of stress because it’s always really clear what you need to do and how to go about doing it!
What's the best thing about studying at the University of Birmingham?
I love the proximity to the city whilst still being a campus university. City centre is only 5 minutes away on either the bus or the train and there’s a very regular service. The campus itself has lots of green spaces and lots of communal study spaces to work with friends. In my first year I lived on the Vale student village and I really enjoyed being so close to all of my friends and being able to walk to lectures together.
What's your highlight of your time at the University?
My highlight of my time at university is the friends I have made. It was really easy to meet lots of different people from a variety of places and get to know each other. There were lots of social events both within my course and by the Guild of Students that allowed me to make friends on and outside of my course.

I suggest making use of all of the resources made available to you, especially lecturers' office hours. Office hours are a great chance to speak with a member of staff one-on-one and have them help with your learning.
