How has the scholarship helped you in your time at university (or your journey to university)?
The scholarship has allowed me more time and energy to focus on studies and opportunities rather than finances.
Why did you want to study in Birmingham?
I wanted a different experience. I wanted to be among the successful Birmingham Law School graduates I had met prior to joining the law school. I wanted opportunities. To date, Birmingham Law School has exceeded my expectations on all fronts. The LLB for Graduates programme at Birmingham is time-efficient (a 2 year course instead of 3) with an abundance of opportunity to showcase academic skills, practical workplace skills, and networking abilities.
What are your favourite places to visit in the Midlands?
Java in the Jewellery Quarter is my go-to coffee spot. The baristas and I are on a first name basis!
Has anything surprised you about living the UK?
I had little culture shock because of all the Canadians on the LLB for Graduates programme. The locals in Birmingham are very friendly and I’ve made great friends with my neighbours who are from the UK. My transition to Birmingham from Toronto was almost seamless!
How do you think your degree and studying abroad will support your future plans?
The flexibility to be able to return to Canada to write the NCAs or stay in the UK to find a training contract upon graduation is wonderful. In year 1, I do not yet have to make a decision, and I have the freedom to pursue a practice in either country! The global perspective I’m gaining and the unique people I’m meeting are invaluable.
What have become some of your new favourite things after living in the UK?
The people! I cannot overstate how friendly and helpful the locals are.
