Why did you originally apply to do MSci Chemistry with a Year in Industry and Foundation Year at Birmingham?
I thought it was a great course when I came on the Open Day, especially with a campus so close to the city centre. Me and my dad both loved it – it felt like the right decision instantly.
What do you think are the best points of MSci Chemistry with a Year in Industry and Foundation Year?
The opportunity to work in Industry and find out what it is you are truly passionate about. Great socials thanks to the hard work from ChemSoc – ChemBall is always a big hit! Our lecturers are amazing – they work hard to provide the best course possible for us and always take our feedback into consideration each year.
What's the best thing about studying at the University of Birmingham?
There are great facilities and support from the department. The campus is beautiful and has received a great amount of investment over the years, especially for STEM students. There are so many sports teams and societies to be a part of – I have tried a lot of new things over the past 4 years here! Birmingham itself has so much to offer as well in terms of nightlife and activities.
What's your highlight of your time at the University?
Getting to meet so many new people every year, either through my course, my sport or my society.
What advice would you give to students thinking about studying MSci Chemistry with a Year in Industry and Foundation Year ?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions! We have Q&A sessions for almost every lecture and you learn so much in these focused sessions. And take part in the ChemSoc socials – you automatically become a member when you start Chemistry and it’s a great way to meet other chemists in a setting other than lectures or labs.
Is there anything extra students thinking about studying MSci Chemistry with a Year in Industry and Foundation Year should know?
Consider the different types of courses they offer – you can go on industry placements, abroad, or even study another language/discipline.
