What was your experience like completing an online Masters at the University of Birmingham?
Pursuing an online Master's degree at the University of Birmingham was a highly rewarding and intellectually stimulating experience. The programme's flexible structure allowed me to effectively balance my studies with professional and personal responsibilities. I found the overall experience to be both worthwhile and professionally enriching.
How would you describe the MA Teaching Studies Course?
I was able to complete the MA Teaching Studies course fully online and this allowed me flexibility to study around my full-time teaching job. The course allowed me to enhance my research skills and advance my practical insights through one-to-one tutorials, which I was then able to display through my dissertation.
Why did you choose to study at the University of Birmingham?
When I looked into completing my masters, the University of Birmingham was always my first choice as I had such a positive experience when completing my Undergraduate Degree and Postgraduate Diploma in Education prior to the MA. Not only this, but University of Birmingham’s prestigious reputation and high-quality teaching was a primary factor in my choice also.
What did you enjoy most about completing your MA?
The highlight of completing the MA was having the opportunity to base my study around a topic that was at the forefront of my interests, Physical Education. It gave me the opportunity to bridge theory and practise in ways that had a real impact – that I could later implement into my teaching job. The MA allowed me to delve deeper into the theory and research that underpin effective teaching. This deeper understanding has transformed the way I approach my role as an educator, and I have begun to make more intentional, evidence-informed decisions in the classroom.

Studying for an MA in Teaching Studies has equipped me with a range of effective pedagogical strategies and strengthened my ability to reflect critically on my teaching. The program allowed me to develop my research skills and enabled me to apply evidence-based approaches in the classroom. As a result, I have gained greater professional confidence, taken on leadership responsibilities, and expanded my career opportunities within education.
