Why did you originally apply to do your chosen course at Birmingham?
I originally applied to study Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Birmingham because I wanted a course that combines strong theory with practical problem-solving. Birmingham stood out to me because of its reputation, its supportive learning environment, and the opportunity to study in a diverse and welcoming university community.
What do you think are the best points of your course?
One of the best points of my course is that it gives students both theoretical knowledge and practical experience. I have been able to learn about electronics, programming, control systems, and engineering design, while also applying these skills through labs, teamwork, and project work. I also like that the course helps build problem-solving and analytical skills that are useful in many different career paths.
What’s the best thing about studying at Birmingham?
The best thing about studying at Birmingham is the balance between academic challenge and student life. The university offers a great environment for learning, but it also gives students many chances to get involved in societies, events, and activities outside the classroom. This has helped me grow both academically and personally.
What’s the highlight of your time at the University?
One of the highlights of my time at the University has been meeting people from different backgrounds and getting involved in student society activities. As an international student, I have really valued being part of a community where I can share my culture, connect with others, and take on active roles outside my studies. These experiences have made my university life much more memorable and rewarding.
What advice would you give to students thinking about studying on the course?
I would advise students to be curious, stay consistent, and not be afraid to ask questions. Engineering can be challenging at times, but if you keep up with the content, practise regularly, and make use of the support available, it becomes very rewarding. It is also important to get involved in projects and activities outside lectures, because they help you develop confidence and practical skills.
Is there anything extra students thinking about studying on the course should know?
Students should know that the course can be demanding, but it is also very rewarding if you enjoy solving problems and learning how technology works. Time management is important, especially when balancing lectures, labs, coursework, and extracurricular activities. I would also encourage students to make the most of university life beyond academics, because those experiences are a big part of what makes studying at Birmingham so valuable.
