Why did you originally apply to do MSci Chemistry with a Year in Industry at Birmingham?

I absolutely loved studying Chemistry at A-Level which inspired me to continue learning about it at university. Then, when I attended an offer holder visit day at the University of Birmingham, I was blown away by the beauty of the campus, the amazing facilities on offer and the really welcoming environment.

What do you think are the best points of MSci Chemistry with a Year in Industry?

The best thing about my course is how there is always opportunities to learn more. Everyone is always so open to answering any questions you may have which means that the more effort you put in, the more you can learn about the subject!

What is the best thing about studying at the University of Birmingham?

I absolutely love being part of the societies on offer at the University of Birmingham! There is something out there for everyone and its an amazing way to meet new people from all walks of life.

What is the highlight of your time at the University?

Two key highlights of mine were getting to sail around the Saronic Gulf in Greece with the sailing society and performing student-written pantomime on the stage at the Guild of Students.

What advice would you give to students thinking about studying MSci Chemistry with a Year in Industry?

My key advice would be to make sure you stay on top of all your studies and to never be afraid to ask your lecturers questions as there are definitely other people in the room that are wondering the same thing!

Is there anything extra students thinking about studying MSci Chemistry with a Year in Industry should know?

Chemistry is such a rewarding subject to learn – especially when you get to apply your knowledge to research later in your degree! As a result, I highly recommend doing an industrial placement year. It may sound like a daunting prospect at first, but the incredible amount of skills and knowledge that you can learn really makes it a worthwhile experience.
