How did you know that the University of Birmingham was the right choice for you?
I knew the University of Birmingham was the right choice because of its strong academic reputation and welcoming campus environment. After my visit to the university and exploring the Vale village and campus I felt so drawn by what the university had to offer. The sense of community, support and facilities provided made me feel confident that UoB was a place where I could thrive academically and also make incredible memories.
Why did you choose to study your course?
I chose to study Criminology and Social Policy because of my interest in feminism, social issues and how policies are shaped to solve these. At the University of Birmingham, the course offers a wide range of modules to suit all my interests. I was particularly drawn to the social research and the more globally focused modules which have allowed me to explore real-world issues from both regional and international perspectives.
What is student life like for you?
For me student life has been an exciting balance of academic commitments and social activities. Alongside my weekly lectures I still have plenty of time to go out into Birmingham and explore the city. Whilst also having the time for the social events with my friends in the evenings such as sports night (aka best night of the week).
What's your favourite memory of university life so far?
One of my favourite memories from university so far was the Kinvig Ball at the end of my first year. It was so much fun to get dressed up and celebrate the end of the year with all my friends and the wider Kinvig society over a meal and drinks.
What advice would you give to current or prospective students?
Make sure you throw yourself into all the great opportunities the university provides. The societies fair at the start of the year is a great way to browse societies and make friends with people who have similar interests to you. I have met some of my best friends through the societies I’m a part of and have loved taking part in the socials and other activities they run. Being part of societies is also a great way to have a break from the stress of studies and relax whether it be playing sport or taking part in drama classes, there is something for everyone.
