Why did you originally apply to do BSc Physics at Birmingham?
At first Birmingham appealed to me because of its strong academic reputation, especially for Physics. Also, after visiting an open day, the department seemed friendly and supportive, and I felt I could imagine myself studying here.
What do you think are the best points of BSc Physics?
I think the wide range of optional module choices available in later years, all taught by experts in their fields. I was particularly interested in the Medical Imaging and Biophysics modules as this relates to what I want to go into after my degree, but I am also studying modules in Astrophysics, Condensed Matter and the Physics of Renewable energy. Paired with the core modules I took in years 1 and 2, which gave me the solid foundation in Physics needed to be able to fully understand and learn about these fascinating areas, the course has meant I can study what I’m passionate about to a high level.
What's the best thing about studying at the University of Birmingham?
The city and campus have everything that you could ever need! There are so many study spaces available on campus, as well as green spaces such as the Green Heart and Winterbourne Gardens, which is close by. And the city has the massive Bullring shopping centre as well as so many fun places to visit like the Depot for climbing and the many bars and clubs on Broad Street.
What's your highlight of your time at the University?
There are so many great memories to choose from! One of the most fun was when it snowed in first year and we used baking trays to sledge down one of the slopes on the Vale! I was also part of Kayaking, and going on trips away was always a highlight. I loved paddling down rapids, and one evening we even had a ceilidh at the campsite we were staying at!
