How have you found your time at Birmingham?
I still remember the evenings I stayed late in the library finishing assignments. On the way back, I’d catch the sunset over the main building — such a stunning view that it made me forget how exhausted I was after hours of work. Those quiet walks reminded me that I was part of a vibrant academic community that values both hard work and reflection.
Another memory that stays with me is waking up early for classes, so hungry I could hardly keep moving. Just outside the engineering building, I came across a table filled with sandwiches and snacks, waiting for students like me. That simple gesture not only gave me the energy I needed for the day but also showed how supportive and caring the University of Birmingham is towards its students.
What do you like most about Birmingham?
What I love about the University is its unique red-brick buildings, full of history yet beautifully combined with modern design. I love sitting on the lawn in front of the main library, enjoying the sunshine. I even have fond memories of the jacket potatoes in the cafeteria and for just a few pounds you could enjoy them with cheese, tuna, or beans, simple but so satisfying. But above all, what I treasure most are the incredible, lifelong friends I made here. These are friendships I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
How has your degree helped you?
In my first year, I learned how to build 3D models and mastered useful coding languages like C, MATLAB, and Python — skills that will be a real advantage for my future career in engineering. These are the achievements you can measure and clearly see. But just as important are the things that aren’t as visible: the growth of my self-confidence, my ability to work independently, to stay organised, and to face challenges with resilience. These are the lessons that not only prepare me for my career but also for life, teaching me what it truly means to grow into adulthood.
What would be your advice for prospective students?
I hope if you come and visit the School yourself, you would be amazed by its beautiful scenery and how safe this place and city is that you don’t need to worry about things. I’m sure you’ll picture the future happy life you are going to have at University of Birmingham!
