Why did you originally apply to do BSc Mathematics at Birmingham?
I applied for the course because I had always loved and been interested in Maths. I wanted to learn more about topics I had found interesting in my A-Levels, such as algebra and integration.
What do you think are the best points of your course?
One thing I really like about this course is the range of topics that you get to learn. I have enjoyed learning so many at once and seeing how they all start to link with each other! Another thing I really like are the events held throughout the week where you get to hang out with other people in your course and meet new people.
What is the best thing about studying at the University of Birmingham?
One of the best things about studying at the University of Birmingham is the amount of support and help that is available. In the course, there are a number of ways for you to get help with your problem sheets and to ask questions about the content you have learned. Some of the support that I have found the most beneficial is the guided study sessions and the Maths Support Centre. Both are run by postgraduates, and they are very helpful.
What is the highlight of your time at the University?
One of my main highlights is attending some of the society events. In my second week of university I went to a Sikh Society event and ended up meeting some of my closest friends who I’m going to live with next year.
What advice would you give to students thinking about studying BSc Mathematics?
The course is definitely a challenge, especially when it starts to move away from A-Level content near the end of the first semester, however all the hard work that you put in will be worth it and you’ll end up loving the course even more.
Is there anything extra students thinking about studying BSc Mathematics should know?
