How did you know that the University of Birmingham was the right choice for you?
Personally, I always knew that I wanted to study at a campus university in a big city, so the University of Birmingham was perfect! The high rankings among UK universities both overall and for economics that contribute to the prestigious nature of the university were also big reasons for choosing UoB. Finally, I knew that I wanted to do a study year abroad, so UoB offering this was important to me.
Why did you choose to study your course?
I always knew I wanted to study economics after taking it as one of my GCSEs and enjoying it. I then went on to take economics at A-Level which furthered my interest in taking the course.
What is student life like for you?
I love studying at the University of Birmingham, and have enjoyed my whole time at university. First year was very social, and made for a great first experience of living away from home. I got along well with my first-year housemates which was also really helpful for adjusting to university life. Living in a house with my friends in second-year was such good fun. This, alongside getting more involved with the main society I have taken part of, Darts Society, by being on the committee made second year possibly the best of the three. Moreover, I found the introduction of optional modules to my studies really interesting. Despite the workload being much greater, final-year has been thoroughly enjoyable, especially now having been friends with my mates for so long.
What's your favourite memory of university life so far?
My favourite memory of university life so far is probably my varsity darts game in my second year, where I got to play on a stage in front of over 200 people and managed to win!
What advice would you give to current or prospective students?
My main advice would be to try to say yes to as many things as possible, and really throw yourself out of your comfort zone. Everybody is in the same situation and is open to talking to people, and you never know what hobbies and interests you might pick up!
