Why did you apply to study Nursing at Birmingham?

I applied to Nursing to make a difference in peoples lives. As lots of my family members are nurses I have grown up being surrounded by those in the medical field. I'm also aware of the range of career pathways available to nurses and am excited by the opportunities available to me once I graduate. Nursing is a career recognised worldwide meaning I would be able to work anywhere in the world!

What has your overall experience as a Nursing student been like so far?

I have loved my time at the University of Birmingham so far! I've met so many amazing people and had the opportunity to get involved with so much. My highlight has been the friendships I have developed throughout my time at University. These are both from my course, accommodation and societies! I have definitely met friends for life and made memories I will always remember.

What has been your biggest challenge you have faced?

My biggest challenge so far has been adjusting myself to the academic workload at University. The workload, especially entering the final year of Nursing, does increase so being able to juggle deadlines, lectures and a social life took some getting used to.  I have learnt how to be more organised over time and there are also so many support networks at the University to help with this and they are so easy to access.

What advice would you give to anyone thinking about studying Nursing?

Studying Nursing at the University of Birmingham has been lots of fun! I've especially enjoyed placements as it has given me the opportunity to see so many different aspects of nursing and learn what kind of nursing I want to pursue, asking as many questions as possible helps you decide this. Nursing is a rewarding career and this includes being a student nurse, there are so many opportunities to make a difference to someone's life. I would advise students to join in with as much as possible and say yes to as many opportunities as you can!
