What has been your biggest achievement whilst studying MSc Advanced Engineering Management?

Starting a postgraduate degree in a new discipline and a new country where your native language is not the first language can be overwhelming. I completed architecture in India. Currently, I am pursuing Advanced Engineering Management in the UK. I maintained academic excellence although being away from my family and friends and observing a diverse educational environment and culture.

Why did you choose MSc Advanced Engineering Management at the University of Birmingham?

Though the teaching and research excellence was the first priority, I had other considerations such as student experience, infrastructure for sports and library facilities. Also, where would you find a beautiful University campus like this?

What were you doing before you started MSc Advanced Engineering Management?

Before starting my postgraduate study, I was finding a job in an architect role. After realising the drawbacks of working in a local job market, I switched my plan to advance my career to a different role though in the same industry.

What piece of advice would you give to anyone considering postgraduate study in your field?

It is better to have some years of work experience before pursuing postgraduate study in this field as it will enable students to utilise suitable resources and recognise the latent opportunities to fulfil their career aspirations.

What, for you, are the best things about MSc Advanced Engineering Management?

The best thing about the course is that it blends the knowledge and expertise of the Birmingham Business School and the School of Engineering. The course starts by studying how general managerial aspect of an organisation can be enhanced, before directing you towards pathway-specific engineering subjects.

What was your motivation for undertaking postgraduate study?

I pursued architecture as an undergraduate course I noticed my interest deviated towards the managerial aspect of the overall architecture and construction industry. Apart from that, I have found my career prospects as an architect were limited in my home country India. Thus, I opted for postgraduate study to increase my employment prospects and my desired career role.
