Why did you originally apply to do MSci Chemistry with a Year in Industry at Birmingham?
Because I thought that the campus was beautiful. It has a real charm to it and I love the green space. Also, it was clear to me that the university was investing a lot of money into their chemistry department with the CTL recently built and the MSB being built in coming years. The staff were so friendly and inviting and this was a good indication that the support would be in place throughout the degree.
What do you think are the best points of MSci Chemistry with a Year in Industry?
I think that the staff are one of the best bits of the course. They really strive for excellence and are exceptionally supportive of their students. I have also found them to be very personal, often making an effort to learn your name and your interests which I think is indicative of them caring about your progression as an individual.
What is the best thing about studying at the University of Birmingham?
The city. Birmingham is such a vibrant city with so much going on all the time. There is so much access to so many things here and I have had experiences I never would have if I had stayed at home. The vast variety of culture you encounter here has expanded my view of the world. There is ample opportunity in a city as large as Birmingham and I think it has broadened my horizons.
What is the highlight of your time at the University?
UoB is such a large university it really allows you to find your people, therefore I would say that the people I have met along my university journey have been the highlight. I have made lifelong friends during my time at uni both in my course and from other disciplines, for example the acappella society I am a member of. It allowed me to meet people who have such similar interests to me on completely different courses. I have been given the chance to sing in some incredible locations and have made some incredible friends along the way.
