Why did you want to study at Birmingham?
I always aspired to come to University of Birmingham as it meant I could get a high-quality education in my home town.
Why did you want to study Film and Creative Writing?
I've always felt drawn to more creative subjects, having studied a lot of analytical subjects in the past. I wanted to pursue a course that I could envision as a career in the future.
What are your favourite places to visit in the Midlands?
Moseley Village (south Birmingham) for sure! Cannock (about a 40 minute drive from Birmingham) has a great shopping outlet! And Kings Heath (south Birmingham) has a great independent books store next to an amazing bakery.
Describe an average week in your life
As I hold a student job within the External Relations department of the University, 20 hours of my week are dedicated to my role in Digital Marketing. I also have both lectures and seminars. My degree requires a lot of reading and watching, so my evening are often spent doing that more so since I am in my final year!
How do you think your degree will support your future plans?
My plans after graduation are to find a role in communications and marketing. This degree has taught me the value of creating bespoke content both visual and written and taught me how to use specific software like Adobe Premiere.
It's also taught me how there are many forms of creative content available and it all depends on briefs and subjectivity! Without this degree, I wouldn't have been able to be a Worklink student. Working in Digital Marketing has taught me many hands-on skills including campaign management, social media performance, and even social channel auditing!
I have also been able to work as a Sports Social Content Ambassador for UoBSport as a result of the skills acquired from my degree. Being a Sports Ambassador has made me want to pursue a communications and marketing career within the sports sector!
There have been many opportunities that studying a creative media degree has allowed me to pursue while studying including being the public relations and marketing manager for the Formula 1 society which has taught me how to organically grow social media channels and how to promote and advertise paid events.
