My Graduate Story

My name is Marsia, and I graduated from the University of Birmingham with an MA Practical Archaeology, as well as a PhD in Classics, Ancient History and Archaeology. Today, I work as a Content Creator & Career Advisor at the University of Warwick | jobs.ac.uk, an Online Lecturer at the University of the People, and Manager, Business Developer & PR Specialist at White House Clinic and Academy, Royal Leamington Spa, where I create articles and videos to guide faculty members and PhD students in achieving their career goals; teach Art History, Greek and Roman Civilisation, and Business courses while supporting students through significant challenges; and identify growth opportunities, build relationships, develop revenue strategies, manage client resources, and drive expansion through digital platforms.

My Journey to University of Warwick, University of the People, and White House Clinic and Academy

A few weeks before my viva voce for my PhD at the University of Birmingham, I secured my teaching role at the University of the People. This opportunity set me on an exciting career path in both academia and industry. After completing my Master's and PhD at Birmingham, I continued my studies online while simultaneously working.

Apart from my Master's and PhD at the University of Birmingham, I later completed:

  • A second Master's in Museum Practice and Management (Ulster University)
  • A third Master's in International Business (Ulster University)
  • A fourth Master's in Strategic Public Relations (Stirling University)
  • I am about to complete a Master's in Tertiary and Higher Education (University of the Highlands and Islands)\

My Birmingham Experience

Completing my Master’s and PhD at the University of Birmingham strengthened my passion for graduate-level learning. These experiences gave me valuable research and project management skills, and helped me become a better teacher, mentor, and learner. It also boosted my confidence as a leader. I later ended up becoming a Department Chair General Studies at the University because of my studies and the skills I acquired at the University of Birmingham. My PhD supervisor, Dr Kenneth Wardle, was very supportive. He was simply outstanding. Very knowledgeable. A great academic!

My Achievements

I delivered over 40 public talks during my PhD, including presentations at conferences and Egyptology societies. I also had the opportunity to publish my work in Rosetta, the University of Birmingham’s journal.
