My Graduate Story
I'm Molly, and I co-own Burger Me Up, a fun, energetic smashburger restaurant. When Alex and I started this venture, we were still in our final year at the University of Birmingham. Today, we run multiple locations, including our flagship restaurant in Stirchley. Going into work every day, I'm just so happy. I don't ever dread going into work, and I think that's a huge thing.
A Day in My Life
My focus is on ensuring we make everything in-house to create the best possible product for our customers. From sauces to cheesecakes we work hard to keep things fresh and authentic.
My Journey to Burger Me Up
We started in a little football club called Wake Green Football Club, then moved to the Indie Lounge in Selly Oak. Later, we opened our own store in Selly Oak, expanded to a venture in Digbeth, a pop-up in Solihull, and even a location in Manchester. Now, we’ve built a fully fledged flagship restaurant in Stirchley.
My Birmingham Experience
I thought the campus was beautiful, it just seemed like a place where I would fit in and enjoy. As well as the academic side, I developed other transferable skills like independence, time management, and confidence, skills that are so important when running a business. I also really valued the resources the University offered, like Careers Network, B-Enterprising, and the Elevate programme. They can really give you a nudge in the right direction. I'm so glad I got the opportunity to go to the University of Birmingham. I’ve made friends for life and connections that have helped me well beyond graduation.
