Why did you originally apply to do MSci Chemistry at Birmingham?

The University is well known for its prestige, and I wanted to be a part of that reputation.

What do you think are the best points of MSci Chemistry?

Chemistry can apply to so many various career fields, and you can come closer to doing what you want in the future by specialising later in the course.

What is the best thing about studying at the University of Birmingham?

How accommodating the university is to students' wants and needs, as most times I've ever had questions or concerns they’ve been met with quick and helpful responses.

What is the highlight of your time at the University?

The endless supply of free pizza during freshers' events was the best thing for me. Too good!

What advice would you give to students thinking about studying MSci Chemistry?

Do not throw away your A level books because you’ll need those notes to refresh your memory when it comes to similar workings out in the future, especially for A level maths students moving to Chemistry.

Don’t shy away from interacting with other students and even staff because everybody is very welcoming here and having been a shy person at the beginning myself I can confirm its better to have friends.

Make sure you try to attend all lectures, because sometimes the recordings go up later, or worse- there's a problem with it and there’s only a voiceover with no video content so you’re stuck with an audio recording of a lecture and an empty handout to work with- a very bad position to be in.

Is there anything extra students thinking about studying MSci Chemistry should know?

Be prepared to spend a good amount of money on resources for the course: lab coats, molecular modelling kits, textbooks... It’s all worth it in the long run even if it doesn’t seem that way just yet.
