What are your career goals after graduating?
After graduating my goals are to perform endodontics at an advanced level, to be able to serve my patients providing a good level of treatment. I hope to be proficient in complex endodontics, and hope to feel confident in tackling the more difficult cases.
Tell us about the teaching environment and lecturers on your course.
The course is mainly online and the tutorials have been very informative. The lectures have been of a high standard, and helped me to understand new concepts.
Tell us how the course has helped you to develop your skills for your current/future career.
The course so far has helped with enhancing my skills in root canal treatment. It has allowed me to look at a tooth and pick the most appropriate files and materials for the case. There isn’t a formula for endodontics, the course has allowed me to try learn new methods for filing and obturation. It has allowed me to refine my practice down to irrigation techniques, and interim dressings and sealer choice.
What are the best things about your course?
The best thing about the course was the high standard of teaching. The lecturers were all well researched, and had a lot of knowledge to share. We were always encouraged to ask questions and judgment was never passed, even when I asked the basics.
Why did you choose to study your current course?
I chose to study the course as I needed to improve my skillset within root canals. I wanted to up-skill and improve the quality of care I am providing to patients. I understand the basics of root canal treatment but I wanted to learn more and really understand the evidence based reasoning behind why I would make certain choices.
Why did you choose to study at the University of Birmingham?
I had researched various other endodontic masters courses but decided to choose Birmingham due to the staff conducting the course. The course instructors and tutors are all well published and researched in endodontics, so I knew the level of teaching would be of a high standard. I also completed my undergraduate degree at Birmingham and believe the teaching was of a high calibre. After speaking with Professor Camilleri about the course it made me choose Birmingham as she explained our course lecturers would be international; giving an insight into different ways of practising and concepts. Furthermore not only the staff at Birmingham confirmed my choice but the mindset of worldwide teaching of the course lecturers.
