Tell us about your career so far

I graduated in 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and have three years of experience as an oil and gas field engineer across Saudi Arabia, Kurdistan, and Dubai. I managed field operations end-to-end, overseeing job planning, documentation, and client billing processes. I ensured QA/QC standards, completed risk assessments, and submitted post-job reports that informed operational decisions. I mentored junior engineers, optimized workflow, and supported equipment readiness for multiple operations with clients including Saudi Aramco and TAQA Group, driving efficiency and compliance on large-scale, high-value projects.

Why did you choose to study an MBA at the University of Birmingham?

I chose Birmingham Business School for its strong emphasis on leadership, strategy, and applied learning. The programme’s immersive modules and the Deloitte Consultancy Challenge provide hands-on experience tackling real business problems, while the global cohort offers diverse perspectives. I was particularly drawn to the School’s focus on developing analytical and strategic skills, combined with a strong alumni network that supports career growth. These features make Birmingham the ideal environment to gain international exposure, build practical business expertise, and transition successfully into the financial sector.

What are your career aspirations after completing the MBA?

I aspire to transition into the financial or consulting sectors, leveraging my engineering and oil and gas experience to bring analytical rigour and commercial insight. In the short term, I aim to gain hands-on experience in investment analysis, portfolio management, or strategic consulting projects. Long term, I hope to take on leadership roles where I can combine technical knowledge, business acumen, and problem-solving skills to drive value creation, support informed decision-making, and deliver sustainable impact across industries.
