What was the main reason you chose Birmingham?

When I attended an Offer Holder Day at Birmingham, I learnt so much about the course and could clearly see why it had such a strong reputation. I was really impressed by the lecturers, who were so passionate and welcoming, and I loved the amazing facilities that the university offered. That day really confirmed for me that Birmingham was the right choice. I left feeling excited, inspired, and certain it was the place where I could thrive both academically and personally.

How have you found managing your time?

I’ve found managing my time okay overall, especially with the support available at Birmingham. My academic tutor has always been there to guide me and point me in the right direction whenever I’ve needed advice. I’ve also accessed counselling services at the university, which were incredibly helpful in balancing my studies with my wellbeing. Using these resources, alongside developing my own routines and strategies, has made a real difference in helping me stay organised and supported throughout my degree.

How did you get into Korfball?

I started playing netball at school, which led me to county level and joining my local club. Sport has always been something I’ve done for fun, and when I came to university, I knew I wanted to try new activities. In my first year I joined the Korfball Club, which was completely new to me, and since then I’ve explored different sports each year just to enjoy the experience. Birmingham has given me the perfect environment to try new things, meet people through sport, and keep the fun side of being active alongside my studies.

What are your top 3 tips for prospective students?

  1. Take full advantage of Open Days and Offer Holder Days – they give you such a clear feel for the course and the community.
  2. Don’t be afraid to try new sports or societies – it’s a great way to make friends and build confidence.
  3. Make use of all the support available – whether academic or wellbeing, the university has so many resources to help you succeed.

I wish I had known how supportive the environment would be, both from staff and peers. It’s easy to worry about managing the transition to university, but Birmingham genuinely makes you feel part of a community where people want you to do well and are always there to help.

What are your future career plans after graduation?

I hope to secure a job within the NHS and also work part-time in sports, combining my passion for physiotherapy with my love of sport.
