How did you know that the University of Birmingham was the right choice for you?
Birmingham stood out for its strong reputation in Economics, its campus-based community, and clear focus on employability. The balance between academic rigour, societies, and career opportunities made it feel like a place where I could develop both professionally and personally. (I also live in Birmingham so that was a major incentive ) ;)
Why did you choose to study your course?
I chose Economics because it explains how markets, incentives, and policy affect real-world outcomes. I enjoy combining theory with data and applying it to current issues, which has supported my growing interest in finance, risk, and analytical decision-making.
What is student life like for you?
Student life is busy but rewarding. Alongside lectures and my placement responsibilities, I stay active through competitive volleyball and spending time with friends. There’s a strong sense of community on campus, with plenty of academic, social, and sporting opportunities.
What’s your favourite memory of university life so far?
My favourite memory was securing my placement year after months of applications and interviews. Celebrating the offer with friends on campus made all the hard work feel worthwhile and marked a real turning point in my university journey.
What advice would you give to current or prospective students?
Get involved early and make use of the opportunities available. Apply for placements and internships sooner than you think, speak to lecturers, and join societies. Stay organised but also enjoy the experience — university is as much about growth as it is about grades.
