How did you know the University of Birmingham was the right choice for you?

I’m an exchange student from the Dubai campus, and when I attended the Open Day there, I really loved the experience. Ever since then, I’d always hoped to come to Birmingham, and being here now honestly feels like a dream come true. The campus has such a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and I love how lively yet peaceful it feels.

I’ve also really enjoyed my course here. The Computer Science program is so well-structured and taught by experienced, certified lecturers who make learning genuinely interesting. I like how the course balances theory with hands-on work, especially through labs and projects that help us apply what we learn to real-world problems. It constantly challenges me to think critically and creatively, and that’s something I really value.

Why did you choose to study Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science?

For me, the University of Birmingham felt like the right place because of how well the Computer Science course aligns with my future goals. I’ve always been interested in understanding how technology shapes the world, and this program offers the perfect balance between theoretical knowledge and practical application.

What also attracted me was the university’s strong academic reputation and the quality of teaching. The lecturers are experienced, supportive, and genuinely passionate about their subjects, which makes a huge difference in how engaging the learning experience feels. I also liked how the course keeps up with emerging technologies, helping us stay prepared for the industry.

How have you developed throughout your studies at university?

One of the biggest opportunities I’ve had is being a second-year exchange student, which has allowed me to study abroad and experience a completely different campus environment while continuing my degree. This experience has not only broadened my perspective but also helped me grow more independent and adaptable.

The Careers Network has also been really helpful in guiding me on internships and future opportunities, offering advice and resources that make planning for life after university much easier. Beyond academics, the university’s supportive environment, from wellbeing services to the Guild and student societies, has made it easy to get involved, meet new people, and balance studies with personal growth.

What's your top tip to students looking to come to university?

Focus on finding a good balance between studies, social life, and personal time. Make sure to choose a hobby or activity you enjoy, for me, dance has been a great way to de-stress and recharge. Spend time with friends, meet new people, and try to interact and build connections wherever you can, it makes university life much more enjoyable.
