Alternative nights out in Birmingham

There are only so many times I can keep going to the local pub, bar, or even club, before it all gets a little so-so. Sometimes, you want something a little more out of the ordinary to look forward to so you can get through a long week of researching and writing. Luckily, Birmingham has a plethora of alternative venues to choose from!

Chance & Counters

It’s only been open for less than a year but already Chance & Counters is becoming the go-to destination for board-game lovers in Birmingham. It’s the perfect place if you want a more relaxed evening with a group of friends. The food is delicious, with both vegan and vegetarian options and the selection of drinks is also pretty great. Plus, it has a wide selection of games for both casual players and seasoned strategists. You might want to book though as it gets busy quick!

Ghetto Golf

With a combination of crazy golf, graffiti, cocktails and street food, Ghetto Golf is a one-stop place for entertainment. The course has a range of holes all uniquely decorated with themes that range from scary to risque. Even if you don’t love golf, it’s a fun place to go with friends, have some drinks and take pictures for Instagram. Again, probably worth booking if you don’t want to queue.

Escape Live

Most people know what Escape Rooms are now. They became popular a few years back and Birmingham has a wide range. Escape Live is one of the most well-known in Birmingham and they even offer two Peaky Blinders themed rooms! Again, probably best to book in advance, partly because you’ll want to go as a group to get the most from the experience.

Flight Club

Bringing the game of darts to a whole new generation (apparently, it’s not just something old men play anymore), Flight Club provides a fun sports theme twist to any night out. It’s Victorian fairground decor, modern twist on the game and impressive selection of food and drinks make it a winner! You can either book in advance or wait for the walk-in area to be free.

NQ64

NQ64 is a neon decorated bar with a vast array of retro arcade games and classic consoles that will delight the inner child in anyone. They also have a regularly changing list of game-themed cocktails. The whole place runs on a token system, so you don’t need to arrive with a bunch of coins!
