Why did you choose to study at University of Birmingham?

I chose University of Birmingham for various reasons! Firstly, the reputation for sports science and physiotherapy teaching here is really good. Secondly, our campus is beautiful and have plenty of study spaces. Finally, the academic staffs are all very kind and helpful!

Did you face any challenges when deciding what university to study at and, if so, what helped you to choose Birmingham?

I was choosing between University of Birmingham and another university in London. However, I decided to stay in Birmingham because the academic staffs always let me feel supported and I know where to go to if I need help. Financially, the living cost is more friendly here compared to London.

What is the highlight or biggest achievement of your time at the University of Birmingham?

As I am doing my Master's degree here at the moment; I also did my foundation and bachelor degree here. The highlight over the past 5 years of my study here is probably completing dissertation and poster day! I found the subject of experiment very interesting. In addition, my supervisor gave me a lot of freedom and independence during the process, and words really can not describe that sense of achievement!

What are your future plans for after you have graduated?

As my degree is in physiotherapy and sports science. Hopefully I would be able to work as a physiotherapist. On the other hand, I am open to a variety of career options that can help/encourage people to move and adapting to healthy lifestyle.

What skills and knowledge did you learn at University of Birmingham?

There are a lot of skills I developed at University of Birmingham. Perhaps the one that I 'like' the most is the research skills. I am a firm believer in evidence-based practice; the research skills has given my the key to explore the knowledge I am curious about and first hand experience in analysing the data from experiments we conducted (which is very rewarding).

How have your experiences as a student helped you to think about your future plans, or secure your job?

I used to thought my only career option is to become a physiotherapist in hospital or community setting. The positive research experience I gained at the University of Birmingham have me contemplating on exploring option of studying further and potentially becoming a researcher.

What advice would you give to students thinking about studying at University of Birmingham?

Reach out to the staffs and fully utilise the resource you will have at the University of Birmingham! I find it more effective when I actively learn and interact with the professors.

Finally, is there anything else you would like to share about your time at the University of Birmingham?

Other than academics, there are numerous society and sports you can take part in. If you do not do any team sports like me, the Sport and Fitness gym at our university is also really good; if you prefer doing some weight lifting and swimming on you own!
