Being hungry on campus shouldn’t ever be an issue! The University of Birmingham is brimming with food options: from street food trucks to cosy cafes, you'll never be short of delicious choices to fuel your busy day.
As soon as you step into the heart of campus, the aroma of food trucks lining the pathways greets your senses. They offer all types of street food, including healthy and halal options. So, getting something good when you are in a rush isn't a problem. If you are going for a relaxed bite, head straight to the University Centre. Its Campus Infusion canteen has dishes from around the world at prices that won't hit your student budget. You also get SPAR within the same building, perfect for quick meal deals, snacks, or a rushed lunch between lectures.
Cafes are tucked away in almost every building: the Bramall Music Building, Gisbert Kapp, Main Library, and Teaching and Learning Building - just to mention a few. Whether you're craving a latte or a sandwich, the Post Grad Café (Alan Walters Building), Café 1902 (Business School), Terrace Tea Room (Winterbourne Garden), Campus Express (Murray Learning Centre), and Park Café (Birmingham Research Park) have you covered.
When it comes to a caffeine fix that's also a study spot, UoB's coffee shops can't be beat. For those who love Costa, there are two branches: one at the University Centre and another at the Sports and Fitness Centre. Both are great places to meet with friends or get through your reading list. Don't overlook smaller campus hot spots like Muirhead Café and Fellows Coffee Shop, located in both The Bramall and the Library.
As the building where students would spend their spare time, the Guild offers so many choices to buy food from. Joe’s bar is always open for people to find high-quality food along with drink options. There are often events, such as Bingo night, held at the bar, so you can get both good food and fun times. The Guild has NISA local, where you can find many food options, ranging from candy to sandwiches and biryanis. Microwaves are also provided to heat your ready-to-go meals (their slushee machines are definitely a bonus). My personal favorite food to get at the Guild is Subway. My daily sandwich dose is needed, and Subway will fill me up!
Other than the stores in these buildings, there are proper restaurants that you can visit as well. On campus, you can find Cuore, a restaurant in the Green Heart serving Mediterranean and North African-inspired small plates. It's a cozy spot to have a proper meal with your friends after a long day.
The Vale also has options of street food, shops, and bars to go to for freshers living around the area. It makes living on campus so much more convenient! Plenty of UoB students, especially those in their second year or above, live around Selly Oak, which is right next to the campus area. Selly Oak offers an abundance of delicious restaurants with different cuisines.
Whether you are rushing between lectures or planning a chill dinner with friends, UoB's campus and the spots nearby will have something for every mood and taste. So, go ahead, explore, eat, and make the most of the delicious side of university life.
