The University of Birmingham offers an array of opportunities to help students grow as well-rounded individuals. Joining clubs and societies is a great way to develop new skills, make friends, and unwind. With over 300 clubs and societies to choose from, there is always something for you, regardless of your interests!

During the welcome week, you can attend the Societies Fair to learn about different clubs and teams. The fair also offers mini-games and freebies, making it a fun experience for everyone ^^ Additionally, there are many trial sessions and talks available during the week. For me, I have joined a Bread Baking Masterclass in order to try my hand at baking (P1). I also had the opportunity to chat with other students in the same group, which was a great chance to make some new friends. In addition, I attended a talk organised by the Psychology Society, in which they talked about career opportunities in the psychology field (P2). This talk was very rewarding and helped me to clarify my career path.

As an international student from Hong Kong, I joined the Hong Kong Public Affairs and Social Services Society. Being a sub-committee member, I have had the opportunity to organise events. One of them was a Charity Sale to raise funds for homeless pets (P3). It was a rewarding experience to help animals in need while developing my event planning and operational skills. The highlight of the society's calendar is the Birmingham Public Speaking Competition, where students from over 10 universities gather to discuss social issues. This year, I was honoured to be the MC of the competition (P4), which truly helped me step out of my comfort zone.
