A day in the life of a second year student during exam season
In my second year, exam season is nothing new. Like many of you, I am juggling assignments and revision, so here is a typical day in my life and a few top tips.
In my second year, exam season is nothing new. Like many of you, I am juggling assignments and revision, so here is a typical day in my life and a few top tips.

Firstly, I make myself breakfast, it’s vital for helping my brain stay active and keeps me focused throughout the day. I enjoy starting my day with a bowl of fruit and porridge, although recently, pancakes with maple syrup have been a particular favourite of mine! While I’m eating, I usually read a book or watch a show, right now, I’m reading The Colour Purple by Alice Walker.
My top tip: Always make time for breakfast.

After breakfast, I usually meet up with some of my friends and walk over to either the Teaching and Learning building or the library. As the library often gets very busy during exam season, I prefer the Teaching and Learning Building, as it is a relaxed environment for studying and has some great views. However, twice a week I push myself to work in the library in a silent environment for a more serious lock in.
I’ll usually be in Teaching and Learning Building for a few hours (with breaks in between, of course), then I'll head outside with my friends and catch some sun on the Green Heart for lunch. Infusion Cafe has some great choices or the Guild.

One thing I’ve learnt during exam season is that looking after yourself really matters. It sounds simple, but staying hydrated and eating properly makes such a difference. Personally, I love food and enjoy cooking, so my motivation for studying is eating a good meal at the end of the day.
My top tip: Just because you are working does not mean you cannot eat well. In fact, fuel is one of the most important parts of getting through long revision days. I also try to make sure I get outside for a walk, especially with the lovely weather as of recently.

Finally, for me it’s very important to unwind after a long day of studying. I particularly enjoy watching Netflix or baking some sweet treats. This allows me to get off my phone and out of exam mode, taking the time to catch up with myself. Sleep is key to stamina when completing assignments and revising so ensuring I get my 8 hours of sleep each night, allows me to feel rested and ready to go again the next day.
Exam season can feel intense, but it’s also a reminder of how far we’ve all come, and you’re not doing it alone. Everyone (including me) is in the same boat, figuring out what works best and pushing through one day at a time. Be kind to yourself, take breaks when you need to, and celebrate the small wins along the way. You’ve got this, we all have!
